Spinal, Cervical & Cranial Orthoses

Bracing to the back, neck and head which include; Lumbo-Sacral Orthosis (LSO), Thoracic-Lumbo-Sacral Orthosis (TLSO), Cervical-Thoracic-Lumbo-Sacral Orthosis (CTLSO), Cervical Orthosis (CO), and Cranial Remolding Orthosis. Designs may include custom thermoplastic, conventional (Harris or Taylor-Harris) and off-the-shelf extension braces (Jewitt/Cash). Common medical conditions requiring spinal/cervical orthoses include; fracture, pain, Scoliosis and Pectus Carinatum.

These can vary from soft to rigid, and are dependent on the degree of stability and instability in the neck. Some common cervical orthoses include, SOMI, Aspen, Miami J, soft, firm collars or custom fabricated orthoses.

Spinal bracing can offload the affected vertebrae, provide stabilization, alleviate pain, allow for early mobilization, increase healing rate, and prevent spinal deformities. Style of bracing will depend upon the level, location and type of fracture or pain. This can vary from a corset to a custom TLSO, depending on patient needs.

Bracing treatment for Scoliosis depends on degree of spinal curvature and growth potential. Scoliosis bracing offloads the spine to stabilize and prevent further curve progression.

This includes a helmet with a series of follow-up adjustments to correct cranial asymmetries in infants, such as; Plagiocephaly, Brachiocephaly and Scaphocephaly (baby “flat head”).
